(Doubled 900, O Tilted Right) (189) I-4 R-7

Obverse III2 6 - The 9 is doubled at top inside of upper loop. Both 0's doubled at top inside.
The date is set further left than normal and slanted with O's higher thasn 1.

Reverse C3g - The mint mark is centered and unpright, the O is punched over CC. The CC mint Mark is centered and shifted right under the O and shows as a thin broken curve on the left and two faint projections on the right.

The O/CC dollars were created when discarded dies from the then-defunct Carson City mint which closed in 1893 were reworked, and used in New Orleans for the 1900-O dollars. The remains of the CC's were not totally eliminated and can be seen below the O mint mark. Ten different VAMs are currently known with O/CC reverses: VAM-7, 7A, 8, 8A, 8B, 9, 10, 10A, 11 and 12. VAM-9 was considered the most desirable variety at the time the Top 100 book was printed and is still a legitimately tough coin to find, especially in mint state. Since that time VAMs 7 and 7A have turned out to rival the VAM 9 in rarity.
