Obverse III219? Doubled 18 in date. 1 shows a curved vertical spike at top left and short horizontal spike to left of bottom crossbar. First 8 lower loop is slightly doubled on left outside and strongly doubled on right outside. Entire Liberty head is covered with dots from a pitted die.
Edge? Reeding on edge is overlapping for about 8 segments at 7 o?clock. Slight doubling of reeding at 9 o?clock.


The 1884-O VAM-4 was originally attributed by Leroy Van Allen as having a doubled 18 in the date and the whole obverse of Liberty's head covered with dots of metal from a pitted die. A revision to the attribution identifies there is overlapping reeding on the coin's edge for about 8 segments at about the 7 o'clock position.

The 18 in the date shows a curved vertical spike in the top left and short horizontal line at the bottom left crossbar. Additionally, the second 8 in the date has doubling in the bottom left of the lower loop and a large bulge the bottom of the lower loop.
